Steertrak launch there new mobile “On-vehicle” disk skimming service. Complimenting their mobile wheel alignment service, they aim to save customers time and money in unnecessary brake disk and pad changes.
Most commercial disks are thrown out half way through their life due to radial cracking. However if the disks are skimmed at each pad change the pad and disk life can be extended by up to 40%. It is also not just the cost of pads and disks but the labour time too, and associated costs of broken studs and damaged calipers. Savings of over £300 per axle have been reported.
Another key benefit is that once a disk is skimmed and fitted with new pads there is no bedding in required. You can go straight to the test station and get 100% brake efficiency.
As a mobile service Steertrak are able to bring the specialised brake lathe to your workshop and skim the disk whilst on the vehicle. The process typically takes about 45 minutes per axle.
Steertrak attended this year’s Commercial Vehicle show at the NEC and were delighted with the interest and support shown. As well as highlighting new services such as mobile on vehicle disk skimming and Automatic Cruise Control Radar Alignment, Steertrak also invited visitors to guess how much fuel “Dave” saved after having the wheel alignment corrected on his truck.

A sample truck is
averaging 2400 miles a week and running with a fuel economy of 8.5 mpg. The owner gets the whole vehicle checked
and all the wheels and axles were aligned by Steertrak. For the following three months the fuel
economy is measured again and it is shown to have improved to 8.83 mpg. (+3.9%). That means a saving of 1.76 gallons or
8.03 litres of fuel each day.
In monetary terms that is
£7.56 +VAT per day or £2313 +VAT per annum on just one truck. The Steertrak
Service cost less than £150 + VAT.

Steertrak is pleased to announce that it has acquired the business of Autotrack
Autotrack was established 25 years ago by the founders Will
& Maureen Tarbuck. Operating throughout Gloucestershire and the surrounding
counties the company has built a first class reputation for customer service
and technical excellence. Due to ill health Will Tarbuck stopped providing
hands-on alignment services in 2014 but since
then has continued to provide help in the back office alongside his wife
Maureen Tarbuck said “It has been a hard decision parting with the business as it has been such a
big part of our lives. We have made many friends and consider our customers and
employees as an extended part of our family. Due to Will’s illness the time has now come for us to focus on our lives
outside of work. We would like to take this opportunity to thank all of our
customers and staff for their support over the years.”

Steertrak Employee Kevin Milstead played a leading role in helping to organise this year’s Special Olympics in Sheffield. It is the country’s largest multi-sport event for athletes with intellectual disabilities. 2600 athletes came together to compete in 19 sports.

Steertrak have been providing mobile laser wheel alignment services for 34 years, and now they can offer the full range of services that can help to solve customers tyre wear or vibration issues. Often a when a customer calls us out we cannot be totally sure whether the route cause of the problem is a wheel balancing or wheel alignment. Now with duel purpose vans we can fix more issues in a single visit. A full wheel replacement and re-torque service is available as well.
